The Minister of Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has acknowledged the delay in the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School. The report was expected to follow a visit by a team on November 4, but after several follow-ups, no actions have been taken by the Ministry.
Minister of Education Aseri Radrodro raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of the school, where students are at risk due to hazardous environments stemming from unfinished and poorly maintained facilities. “The building, which was constructed under previous management, was left incomplete,” stated Mr. Radrodro. He emphasized that efforts are underway to collaborate with the new management to find the most effective approach to complete the structure.
Additionally, he urged the school to officially request Government assistance through the Ministry of Education if needed. The overall poor state of the school has been a cause for concern, with significant structural damage observed in multiple classrooms, including rusted roofs and broken windows. These conditions not only jeopardize the safety of the students but also create unintended escape routes.
The troubling situation at Nabua Primary School, which affects more than 900 students, underscores a larger issue regarding the declining public education infrastructure, particularly in urban regions.
It is crucial that swift actions be taken to rectify these hazardous conditions and ensure a safe learning environment for the students. By investing in the proper infrastructure and maintenance, the government can significantly improve the educational experience for future generations, providing hope for a brighter academic future.
In summary, the ongoing concerns at Nabua Primary School reflect both immediate safety challenges and a wider problem regarding urban public education structures, highlighting the need for urgent government intervention.
