Authorities are actively investigating an incident in Natabua, Lautoka, where a classic bus was pelted with stones while in transit. The attack occurred last week, resulting in noticeable damage to the bus.

In response to the vandalism, the bus operator communicated through social media, reassuring passengers of their dedication to safety and announcing that corrective measures were being put in place. This commitment comes amid a backdrop of rising concern among community members regarding the conduct of some bus drivers, who have been described as rude and arrogant, leading to growing frustrations over service delays, particularly during peak travel periods.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro stated that a report has been filed, and the investigation into the stoning incident is ongoing. This occurrence marks part of a disturbing trend of attacks on public transport within the Natabua area, which has drawn condemnation from local authorities and community leaders.

Narayan Reddy, president of the Lautoka Residents and Ratepayers Association, has expressed the need for tougher penalties for such offenses. He highlighted the inherent dangers these actions pose to both drivers and passengers and reiterated previous police warnings concerning violence against public transportation.

As investigations continue, there is hope that enhanced community awareness and collaboration can create a safer public transportation environment. With concerted efforts from both law enforcement and residents, there is potential to minimize acts of violence and vandalism, fostering a more respectful and secure atmosphere for all passengers.
