The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) is urging ferry passengers to promptly report any defects they observe on vessels that could jeopardize their safety. This message, delivered by MSAF’s chief executive officer, Joeli Cawaki, comes amid growing concerns over the maintenance standards of shipping vessels, particularly as the busy festive season approaches.

Cawaki emphasized the importance of informing MSAF about any issues as soon as they arise so that operators can take swift action and ensure the safety of all passengers. Certain vessels known to have a history of defects will be under increased scrutiny during this peak period. Each ferry is expected to implement a safe ship management system, and staff are reminded of their responsibility to maintain public safety at all times.
