An incident involving a GA-8 Airvan, identified by registration DQ-VAN, transpired at Yasawa Aerodrome on the morning of December 21, 2024. The aircraft, which initiated its journey from Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM, experienced a runway overrun upon landing at Yasawa.

Although the aircraft suffered damage to its nose wheel and propeller, it came to a stop just beyond the runway area, and remarkably, all individuals on board – the pilot and six passengers – emerged unhurt, with no injuries reported.

Yasawa Aerodrome’s operations remained seamless and uninterrupted, allowing aviation activities to continue as normal. This inquiry will follow established procedures and international aviation standards to ensure thorough assessment and enhancements in safety protocols.

The Ministry emphasized, “The safety and well-being of all passengers, crew, and stakeholders in Fiji’s aviation sector remain our top priority,” and expressed appreciation for the swift response of authorities and personnel involved.

Updates will follow as the investigation advances.

This incident, while unfortunate, serves as a reminder of the ongoing commitment to aviation safety in Fiji, showcasing the importance of rapid response and thorough investigation practices. Such measures can ultimately lead to improved safety for all travelers in the region.
