On November 16, the community of Sadro held a celebration known as the Day of Sadro, which honored the village’s rich culture and traditions while bringing together its residents in a spirit of unity and gratitude. The event showcased the strong bonds among the villagers and highlighted collaborative efforts within the community.
Sadro is divided into three distinct clans: Nakorolailai, Nairevereve, and Vatueba. These clans have combined forces to facilitate the development and enhancement of community life. There are three main committees driving local initiatives: the Senikavika, Senitagimoucia, and Senimakosoi, dedicated to advancing various projects for the village’s benefit.
Nikotimo Ravulo, the village chief, emphasized the importance of this festival and the planning that went into it, showcasing the committee’s dedication to community advancement. He noted that numerous efforts had been made to improve local facilities, such as the community hall, scholarships, and other development projects, that reflect the commitment of the villagers to support each other.
The village’s leadership also expressed their appreciation for the unity displayed during the Day of Sadro. They recognized the vital role that all villagers played in ensuring the success of the event, as it built a sense of togetherness and achieved its goals of celebrating resilience and cultural heritage.
Loame Dravunavanua, another respected leader in Sadro, highlighted the significance of the event as a remembrance of the village’s legacy, specifically honoring Manueli Canavanua, a local elder who served as a reminder of the strength and spirit of the community in the face of challenges.
This celebration, initiated in 2002, has now become a longstanding tradition, commemorating significant historical events while also reinforcing community ties. Elder Isireli Cawaki, the oldest resident of Sadro at 81 years, expressed gratitude towards the surrounding villages, Dravuni and Deuba, for their support in making the Day of Sadro a memorable occasion.
Overall, the Day of Sadro not only serves as a celebration of the past but also fosters hope and a commitment to continue serving the community with strength and unity in the future.
