Rural Roads Revolution: Government’s Heavy Machinery Tender Unveiled!

The Ministry of Public Works is taking steps to enhance its capabilities by launching a tender to acquire heavy machinery for the Department of Works (DOW). This initiative will enable the DOW to construct and maintain rural and maritime roads throughout the country, benefiting rural communities.

The tender outlines the procurement of three medium excavators, three large single drum rollers, three backhoe wheel loaders, and a 10-wheeler hoist truck. These resources will be distributed across the four divisions: Central, Eastern, Western, and Northern, ensuring effective construction and maintenance of rural roadways.

According to the tender, many villages and communities still lack adequate road access to local economic centers. The DOW has identified 600 households, totaling a population of 5,000 people, that will receive improved road access through this initiative. Planned projects include various road upgrades in Cakaudrove, Bua, and Macuata, as well as significant road development in Tailevu and upper Naitasiri and the Rakiraki to Navosa area.

This move underscores the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and accessibility for rural populations.
