The women of the Amania Women’s Group from Nailega, Wainibuka, Tailevu, have achieved significant progress in their entrepreneurial journey. Early yesterday, they set off at 4 a.m., overcoming the chilly morning air to showcase their handmade products at the Suva Civic Centre’s Christmas Market, an event that will take place over two days. Joining 40 other female entrepreneurs, these women are embracing the holiday spirit and the chance to gain financial independence.

The Amania Women’s Group is turning local resources into marketable goods, exemplifying the resilience and determination characteristic of rural entrepreneurs. Eleni Kaloulia, the group’s treasurer, shared that the event marked a pivotal moment for them. Initially, financial independence seemed elusive due to limited resources and ideas, but their participation in the ROC Market—known as Fiji’s longest-running street market—brought them success. They reported selling numerous mats and shopping chains and even receiving several custom orders.

Despite facing challenges in establishing their business presence with little support, the Amania Women’s Group remains committed to their goals. Ms. Kaloulia emphasized their ambition to improve the living standards of their community in Nailega.

This story exemplifies the collective strength of women in rural settings as they pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, reflecting hope and determination in the face of obstacles. It highlights the importance of community support and initiative in fostering economic growth and independence.
