A sub-clan in Nadi is experiencing a boost in business thanks to support from the government. Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica presented a new excavator to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Ltd, signifying a significant advancement in promoting rural entrepreneurship and sustainable development.

The new equipment is expected to alleviate the financial pressures on the company and enhance its productivity. The business has expanded into gravel extraction, utilizing local resources to foster a sustainable operation that benefits the members of Sikituru Village.

Mr. Kamikamica reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for traditional landowners and commended the community’s initiative in establishing a thriving business. He mentioned, “This investment of $78,666.67, through the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme, underlines our confidence in the ability of rural enterprises to stimulate economic growth.”

He also recognized the difficulties that micro and small businesses encounter in securing financing, stating the government’s commitment to exploring innovative financial solutions such as small grants and crowdfunding initiatives.

Mr. Kamikamica encouraged community members to participate in forthcoming public consultations on the Access to Business Funding Bill, which aims to introduce alternative financing options. The excavator will enhance their operations, boosting production and efficiency while providing local economic advantages.

He added, “This event highlights the resilience and creativity of our rural communities. Together, we reinforce our dedication to promoting rural entrepreneurship and securing a prosperous future for all Fijians.”

Company director Vilikisa Sayabo expressed gratitude to the government for their support. He noted, “We started our business two years ago with gravel extraction, and while we managed to acquire a truck, we still needed to rent an excavator from a contractor. This year, through the cooperative effort facilitated by the government, we successfully obtained this machine. It will simplify our work and potentially double our production, increasing our revenue.”
