An incident involving a GA-8 Airvan aircraft, marked with registration DQ-VAN, took place at Yasawa Aerodrome on the morning of December 21, 2024. The aircraft had recently taken off from Nadi Airport at 9:49 AM and unfortunately overran the runway upon landing at Yasawa Aerodrome.
The aircraft suffered damage primarily to its nose wheel and propeller but managed to come to rest just outside the runway area. Fortunately, all occupants, including the pilot and six passengers, were unharmed, and there were no reported injuries arising from the incident.
Importantly, Yasawa Aerodrome continues its operations without disruption, allowing aviation activities to proceed as usual. In light of this incident, the Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation announced the initiation of a comprehensive investigation to better understand the circumstances surrounding the event. This inquiry will follow standard procedures and international aviation guidelines, with the goal of identifying potential improvements for safety measures.
The Ministry emphasized that the safety and well-being of passengers, crew, and all stakeholders within Fiji’s aviation industry remain a primary focus. They expressed appreciation for the swift actions taken by the authorities and personnel involved in the response.
