Rugby has had a profound impact on the lives of many players, shaping their character and discipline on and off the field. In Nausori, Nalawa, this positive influence is evident through the Supercool-sponsored Vatukoro under-19 team, which has demonstrated commendable growth since its formation earlier this year.

Coach Ilai Nameke expressed pride in the team’s development, citing significant behavioral changes in the players since they became involved in sevens rugby. “These boys are disciplined off the field; they steer clear of illegal activities that could lead them into trouble,” he noted, highlighting the fruitful results of their engagement with the sport.

After showcasing their skills at the Wairiki 7s tournament in Taveuni, the team further tested its talent at the RC Manubhai 7s tournament, which concluded recently at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori. The Vatukoro team, comprised of village-based players, achieved an impressive milestone by reaching the semi-finals of the under-19 division—an achievement that exceeded their expectations. “We are thankful to God for bringing us here,” Coach Nameke shared.

Now, the Vatukoro team is focused on their next challenge at the Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s tournament, scheduled for January 16-18, presenting further opportunities for the players to showcase their talents.

This article underscores the tangible benefits of sports in youth development and community bonding. With the right guidance and ethical values instilled through rugby, these young athletes not only excel in their game but also build a positive foundation for their futures.

In conclusion, through dedication and discipline fostered in a supportive environment, the Vatukoro under-19 team serves as an inspiring example of how sports can help shape character and lead to personal growth.
