Joji Nasova’s remarkable journey in rugby has seen him rise from humble beginnings in Ba to securing a bright future in professional sport. Having navigated through significant personal challenges, including the loss of his mother during his teenage years and the decision to leave school to support his family through sugarcane farming, Nasova always held tight to his passion for rugby.
His steadfast belief in his talent and continuous hard work paid off as he transitioned from local club games to playing in Fiji’s senior rugby ranks. Nasova took that persistence with him to Suva, where he played for Dominion Brothers, impressing coaches along the way. His determination led to opportunities that most only dream of—most notably, earning a place in the Fiji 7s extended squad and eventually making his international debut under coach Osea Kolinisau.
A standout performance at a local tournament opened doors for him, and soon after playing in China, he was selected to represent Fiji in the 2024 Summer Olympics, where the team clinched a silver medal. With his impressive track record, including being the joint top try scorer in the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series with 26 tries, he was recently signed to the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua for the Super Rugby Pacific season.
This transition marks a significant milestone in Nasova’s career and reflects a broader trend of successful sevens players moving to the 15s format. As he embarks on this next chapter, both Nasova and his new coach, Glen Jackson, express optimism about the contributions he will make to the Drua.
Nasova’s story exemplifies how dedication, hard work, and a strong sense of community can lead to remarkable achievements. Beyond his athletic pursuits, he remains focused on supporting his family, a commitment that enhances his drive on the field. As he prepares for the upcoming season, there is a tangible sense of hope and excitement surrounding both Nasova and the future of Fijian rugby. His journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes everywhere, showing that dreams can indeed come true with perseverance and faith.
