Rugby World Cup Captain Calls for Accountability Amid FRU Communication Breakdown

Waisea Nayacalevu, the captain of the Flying Fijians for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, has expressed concerns about a lack of communication from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) amidst ongoing allegations of mismanagement. Over a week has passed since these issues emerged, and Nayacalevu stated that neither he nor his teammates have received any updates despite their efforts to reach out.

In a live podcast with social media influencer Lesi Vanuavou, Nayacalevu revealed that he had contacted Peter Mazey, the Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union Trust Board, who initially agreed to a meeting with senior players. However, Mazey became unavailable at the last moment, and subsequently, no one from the FRU has followed up with them.

“We need to talk and iron out the issues,” Nayacalevu emphasized, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability within the organization. He also mentioned that emails have been sent to the FRU regarding outstanding salaries for matches played earlier this year against the Barbarians, Georgia, and the All Blacks.
