More than 2.5 million tickets will be made available for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, set to take place in Australia, with prices for pool matches starting as low as A$40 (approximately $26). Organizers, including World Rugby, are proclaiming this to be the most accessible Rugby World Cup ever, with over a million tickets across various stages priced under A$100.

To cater to dedicated fans, a limited number of 2,027 “Superfan passes” will be up for grabs at A$750, allowing holders to secure tickets for any of the 52 matches, including the final. Pre-sale registration for general fans will open early next year, ensuring widespread access to matches.

Brett Robinson, Chairman of World Rugby, expressed pride in the range of ticket pricing options aimed at making the tournament inviting for everyone, including families, fans from host cities, and international visitors. He emphasized rugby’s role in uniting diverse communities, saying, “rugby’s biggest stage should be open for all.”

Recent events, like the third test match between Australia and the British & Irish Lions, saw ticket prices significantly higher, ranging from A$149 to A$649, which highlights the effort to make future tournaments more financially accessible.

Australia already has a rich rugby history, co-hosting the inaugural World Cup with New Zealand in 1987 and hosting it solely in 2003. However, rugby’s following in Australia has seen challenges, particularly as the Wallabies have faced a tough decade on the pitch. Robinson highlighted a “bold mission” to reignite Australia’s passion for rugby, aiming to bring together fans from around the world.

This positive approach towards enhancing fan engagement and restoring enthusiasm for the sport presents a hopeful outlook for the Rugby World Cup and the future of rugby in Australia. The anticipated tournament not only promises thrilling competition but also aims to foster a sense of community and celebrate rugby’s core values of respect and integrity.
