Fiji-born Wallabies center Samu Kerevi is facing challenges at the start of the Japanese rugby season with his team, Urayasu D-Rocks. The newly promoted club struggled in their recent match, suffering a significant defeat of 62-19 against the Shizuoka Blue Revs. Over the first two rounds of competition, Urayasu has conceded a total of 93 points, placing them at the bottom of the standings.

Kerevi isn’t alone in his difficulties; former Wallaby Israel Folau also shares a record of two losses. Meanwhile, Joseph Manu, another prominent player who transitioned from the NRL, experienced a close 21-17 defeat with his team, Verblitz, against Mie Heat after coming off the bench.

In a nail-biting match, ex-Wallaby flyhalf Bernard Foley was unable to secure a win for Spears Funabashi Tokyo Bay, missing a crucial late penalty goal as they fell to the Wild Knights, marking the 16th defeat against them in their last 17 encounters.

On a brighter note, the Kobe Steelers achieved their first victory of the season, overcoming the Yokohama Eagles 36-18 under the guidance of former Wallaby coach Dave Rennie. Additionally, the Brave Lupus Tokyo celebrated a spectacular performance, crushing the Sagamihara Dynaboars with a score of 61-8 and securing their second win as defending champions.

This season’s rugby league offers a mix of challenges and triumphs, showcasing the resilience of players like Kerevi amidst tough matches. As teams adjust and jostle for position, fans can look forward to exciting developments in the coming weeks.
