The Fiji Bitter Nacula, Yasawa 7s tournament serves as a vital initiative aimed at promoting education and fostering young talent in the Yasawa Islands. This year, the organizers will generously donate $10,000 to both Ratu Meli Primary School and Yasawa North Secondary School during a public event at Churchill Park.
Tournament coordinator Mosese Susu explained that the funds will be presented to the heads of the schools and Turaga Na Tui Drola, Ratu Manasa Naikasowalu, highlighting a commitment to transparency and accountability. In previous years, the financial support has helped repair classrooms, construct teacher accommodation, and provide essential supplies for students.
Susu underscored the tournament’s theme, “Breeding Champions from Grassroots to Greatness,” which aims to steer youth away from drugs and criminal activities by creating pathways for sports and identifying emerging talents. The goal is to nurture these young athletes, enabling them to progress to club, provincial, and national teams, including the Fijian Drua.
The event enjoys robust backing from various sponsors, with Vodafone supporting the women’s division and other local businesses covering different aspects of the tournament including ambulance services and catering for officials.
Susu urged fans to attend the tournament in large numbers, emphasizing that the entry fees contribute to enhancing education and sports in the community, thus offering a brighter future for the youth of Yasawa.
This initiative is a wonderful example of how sports can positively impact communities by improving educational facilities and providing resources that pave the way for future generations. The commitment from both organizers and sponsors reflects a deep investment in the local community’s youth, promising a hopeful path ahead.
