Rugby with a Purpose: Community Rallies for New Church in Suva

The All Nations Christian Fellowship successfully hosted a two-day Epic 7s Tournament over the weekend at Prince Charles Park, concluding yesterday. The event attracted a large audience and aimed to raise funds for the construction of a new church, featuring 20 senior men’s teams, 24 U21 teams, and five women’s teams, all competing in spirited rugby matches.

This tournament is part of the church’s three-year initiative to collect between $30,000 and $35,000 necessary for building a new worship space in Suva. With hopes of generating $20,000 to $25,000 from the tournament, the church community expressed their excitement over the strong turnout and support.

Tournament Director Vilitati Galivia shared insights about their goals. “The main reason for this tournament is to build an All Nations Christian Fellowship Church in Suva. We have secured land in Suva, but now we need to construct our church, which we estimate will cost around $30,000 to $35,000. We are implementing a three-year plan, and from this two-day 7s tournament, we hope to raise between $20,000 and $25,000,” he stated.

The tournament included teams from the Western, Northern, and Eastern divisions. The Police team showcased their prowess, delivering a strong performance throughout the event. Teams from the Western and Northern divisions also demonstrated remarkable skill and sportsmanship, contributing to a highly competitive tournament.
