Ba Rugby Union is setting forth a proposal for an injury insurance scheme aimed at safeguarding players across Club, Tikina, and Provincial levels. According to Kautoga, each active player in the province will be required to register and pay a nominal annual fee of $10 to participate in the sport.

The funds generated will be designated for covering all medical expenses related to injuries sustained during rugby activities in any tournament overseen by the Ba Rugby Union (BRU) or while representing one of the provincial sides. Kautoga noted that this initiative draws inspiration from the successful model implemented by the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union, highlighting the importance of player welfare.

This comprehensive insurance scheme will cover medical treatments for injuries sustained during play, travel to and from healthcare facilities, and any necessary medical treatment until the player has fully recovered. Additionally, the fund will finance medical services for tournaments, including the provision of doctors, nurses, medical equipment, and standby vehicles. It also accommodates modest payouts for disabilities and, in rare cases, for fatalities.

Kautoga assured that all contributions made by players will be allocated to a dedicated and protected bank account at BRU, which can only be used for medical expenses related to player care.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in fostering a safer environment for rugby players in Ba, emphasizing the need for responsible practices in sports administration while prioritizing the wellbeing of athletes. The introduction of such an insurance scheme not only enhances player safety but also sets a responsible precedent for other sports organizations to consider similar measures.

Overall, this proposal showcases a positive evolution in player welfare within the sport, hopefully leading to increased participation and confidence among players and their families regarding safety in rugby.
