The Civil High Court in Suva has dismissed the appeal filed by Pawan Deo, the former financial officer of the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU), concerning a case against the Trust Board. This decision follows Deo’s withdrawal of his appeal against the FRU.
The FRU had previously initiated legal proceedings against Deo, his wife, and their business, Sports Supplies Limited, alleging embezzlement of approximately $7,000. This case was initially addressed in the Nasinu Magistrate’s Court.
In a prior development, the FRU withdrew their claim on July 24, leading Deo to file a counterclaim seeking damages for both financial and emotional distress attributed to the FRU’s actions.
During the court proceedings yesterday, Deo expressed frustrations with the Civil High Court’s registry, outlining challenges he faced in obtaining necessary documentation to support his appeal. Acting on his attorney’s advice, he chose to withdraw the application and intends to submit a new one at a later date.
FRU’s attorney, Tomasi Tuitoga, indicated that the organization does not oppose the withdrawal, but requested a compensation of $200 to be paid by Deo before November 27.
This case reflects a dynamic aspect of legal proceedings where parties can reevaluate their options and seek resolutions outside the courtroom. Deo’s intention to file a new application could suggest a desire for a different outcome in the future, highlighting the importance of persistence in legal matters.
As this situation develops, it presents an opportunity for both parties to potentially reach an amicable resolution, fostering a more collaborative relationship moving forward.
