The Fiji Bitter Nacula, Yasawa 7s rugby tournament is playing a vital role in advancing education and supporting young talent in the Yasawa Islands. This year, organizers are set to donate $10,000 to Ratu Meli Primary School and Yasawa North Secondary School during the event at Churchill Park.

Mosese Susu, the tournament coordinator, will present the funds to school administrators and Turaga Na Tui Drola, Ratu Manasa Naikasowalu. He emphasized the commitment to enhancing school facilities and providing resources for young athletes. Over the past two years, donations have been utilized for repairing classrooms, constructing teachers’ accommodations, and supplying a year’s worth of food for students.

This year’s donation will be made publicly to ensure transparency and accountability, aligning with the tournament’s theme, “Breeding Champions from Grassroots to Greatness.” This theme encapsulates the goal of steering youth away from drugs and crime by providing opportunities through sports to discover and cultivate their athletic talent.

Susu noted the aim is to support youths at the grassroots level, paving the way for them to progress to club, provincial, and possibly national teams such as the Fijian Drua. The event has garnered strong backing from various co-sponsors, with Vodafone supporting the women’s division, while other organizations, including Kasabias and Vomo Island Resort, provide essential services and funding for the tournament.

Susu encouraged fans to attend in large numbers, underlining that the entry fees contribute directly to enhancing the schools and the community. “Every ticket purchased contributes to a brighter future for our children and our sports,” he said.

This tournament reflects a remarkable initiative that not only promotes sports but also strengthens the community through education and youth development. The positive impact of such events cannot be overstated, as they foster hope and provide pathways for budding athletes to excel in their pursuits.

In summary, the Fiji Bitter Nacula, Yasawa 7s not only showcases rugby but also emphasizes a commitment to uplifting local education and creating opportunities for the next generation.
