Rugby Star’s Troubling Allegations: What’s Next for Vinaya Habosi?

Fijian winger Vinaya Habosi has not faced any charges following his arrest for allegations of domestic violence, but reports from France indicate that his club, Racing 92, may consider suspending him. Habosi was released after his partner chose not to file a complaint against him.

The incident arose during an argument between Habosi and his wife, during which he allegedly pushed her while she was holding their baby. Witnesses reported to French media that after his wife fell, Habosi began striking her in the back of the head. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed during the incident, and Habosi’s partner declined assistance from emergency services and showed no visible injuries.

It has also been reported that Habosi was noticeably intoxicated at the time and contended that he did not push or hit his wife. Racing 92 released a statement acknowledging the allegations against Habosi and mentioned that they would refrain from further comments until more information is available from the appropriate authorities. Should he be found guilty, it is likely that his contract with the club, led by coach Stuart Lancaster, will be terminated.

Habosi debuted internationally for Fiji in 2022 and participated in the 2023 Rugby World Cup held in France. He joined Racing 92 in the Top 14 league in 2023 after his contract with the Fijian Drua was ended due to a significant breach of their code of conduct, which reportedly involved yet another domestic abuse case.
