Fijian winger Vinaya Habosi has not been charged following his arrest related to allegations of domestic violence, but reports indicate he may face suspension from his club, Racing 92. Habosi was released after his partner chose not to file a complaint against him.
The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument between Habosi and his wife, during which he allegedly pushed her while she was holding their baby. Witnesses claimed that after his wife fell, Habosi struck her multiple times in the back of the head. Fortunately, the child was unharmed, and Habosi’s partner declined assistance from emergency services, showing no visible injuries.
It has also been reported that Habosi was noticeably intoxicated and claimed he did not push or hit his wife. Racing 92 released a statement acknowledging the allegations against Habosi and noted that they would wait for more information from the relevant authorities before making further comments.
If he is found guilty, it is likely that Habosi’s contract with the team, led by head coach Stuart Lancaster, will be terminated. Habosi earned his first cap for Fiji in 2022 and participated in the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. He joined Racing 92 in the Top 14 league in 2023 after his previous contract with the Fijian Drua was terminated for a ‘high-level breach’ of their code of conduct, which included alleged involvement in another domestic abuse incident.
