No charges have been filed against Fijian winger Vinaya Habosi following his arrest over domestic violence allegations, but reports from France indicate he may face suspension from his club, Racing 92. Habosi was released after his partner chose not to file a complaint.
The incident involved an argument where the 24-year-old allegedly pushed his partner, who was holding their baby at the time. Witnesses told French media that after his wife fell, Habosi reportedly began to hit her in the back of the head. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed, and his partner declined assistance from emergency services, showing no visible injuries.
It is reported that Habosi appeared to be intoxicated and denied having pushed or hit his wife. Racing 92 stated, “Racing 92 has taken note of the facts alleged against its player Vinaya Habosi. Pending further information from the competent authorities, Racing 92 will refrain from any further comment.”
Should he be found guilty, it is likely that his contract with the Paris-based team, led by Stuart Lancaster, will be terminated. Habosi made his international debut for Fiji in 2022 and participated in the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. He joined Racing 92 in 2023 after his contract with the Fijian Drua was ended due to a ‘high-level breach’ of their code of conduct, related to another domestic abuse allegation.
