Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby player Rauto Vakadranu has issued a timely reminder to fellow athletes about the importance of adhering to the law during the holiday season. The 27-year-old corrections officer noted that temptations often arise during Christmas and New Year celebrations, which can lead to misbehavior.
Representing Namosi, Vakadranu has played in the Vancouver and Los Angeles legs of the SVNS series this year and aims to return to the main team. He also showcased his talent with the national squad at the Mataso 7s last month. Expressing his aspirations for the upcoming year, he shared, “My goal for 2025 is to play for another leg,” while adding that he is placing his faith in God amidst the competitive environment in the team.
Despite being the only player from Wardens in the current extended squad, Vakadranu appreciates the support and motivation he receives from his club. He recalled looking up to fellow Wardens player Josua Vakurinabili during his high school years and expressed pride in now sharing the field with him.
Vakadranu emphasized the importance of setting personal goals and staying dedicated, particularly during this festive time when distractions are plentiful. He reminded his teammates, “As rugby players, we are old enough to know what is wrong and right, so do what you know is best for you and the country.”
The Fiji 7s squad is currently on a break for the holidays and will return to training in January. They are also scheduled to participate in the McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s, which will take place from January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
As the holiday season approaches, Vakadranu’s message serves not only as a reminder to his peers but also encourages a sense of responsibility and commitment that athletes can carry forward into the new year.
