Rugby Star Vinaya Habosi Faces Club Suspension Amid Domestic Violence Allegations

No charges have been filed against Fijian winger Vinaya Habosi following his arrest over domestic violence allegations, but reports from France indicate that he may face suspension from his club, Racing 92. Habosi was released after his partner opted not to lodge a complaint against him.

The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument between Habosi and his wife, during which he allegedly pushed her while she was holding their baby. Witnesses told French media that after his wife fell, Habosi began to strike her in the back of the head. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed during the event, and Habosi’s partner declined assistance from emergency services, showing no visible injuries.

It has been reported that Habosi appeared to be intoxicated and claimed he did not push or strike his wife. Racing 92 issued a statement acknowledging the allegations against Habosi and stated that they will withhold further comments until they receive more information from the relevant authorities.

Should he be found guilty, it is probable that Habosi’s contract with the club, led by coach Stuart Lancaster, would be terminated. Habosi made his international debut for Fiji in 2022 and participated in the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. He joined Racing 92 in 2023 after his contract with the Fijian Drua was cut short due to a ‘high-level breach’ of their code of conduct, following a previous domestic abuse allegation.
