Vinaya Habosi, a winger for Racing 92, has been taken into police custody in Clamart, Hauts-de-Seine, Paris, following allegations of domestic violence against his wife. The 24-year-old Fijian international was reportedly arrested on Sunday evening while under the influence of alcohol.
According to reports, witnesses observed an altercation in which Habosi allegedly pushed his wife, who was holding their child, resulting in her falling and sustaining injuries to the back of her head. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed, and the wife, who had no apparent injuries, declined medical treatment from emergency responders.
At the time of his arrest, Habosi registered a blood alcohol concentration of 1.05 mg/L of air. He acknowledged the argument but denied any physical aggression towards his wife.
Habosi joined Racing 92 in 2023 after transferring from Fiji and represented his nation in the 2023 World Cup. He now faces potential legal consequences due to this incident. Additionally, there were previous allegations of assault involving Habosi and his partner in Fiji early last year. Following those allegations, the Fijian Drua terminated his contract just before he moved to France to join Racing 92. Nevertheless, he was later selected for the Flying Fijians team in June 2023 by then-coach Simon Raiwalui.
