Rugby Star Vinaya Habosi Arrested Amid Domestic Violence Claims

Vinaya Habosi, a winger for Racing 92, has been detained by police in Clamart, Hauts-de-Seine, Paris, following allegations of domestic violence against his wife.

As reported by French newspaper Le Parisien, the Fijian international was arrested on Sunday night while he was under the influence of alcohol. Witnesses recounted an altercation during which Habosi, 24, reportedly pushed his wife, who was holding their child. This resulted in her falling and sustaining injuries to the back of her head. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed, and the wife, although she had no visible injuries, opted against medical assistance from emergency services.

During his arrest, Habosi recorded a blood alcohol content of 1.05 mg/L. He acknowledged the argument but refuted any claims of pushing or striking his wife.

Habosi joined Racing 92 in 2023 after transferring from Fiji and recently represented his country in the 2023 World Cup. He is now facing potential legal consequences from this situation, amid previous reports alleging a similar incident involving his partner in Fiji earlier in the year. Following the emergence of those assault allegations, Habosi’s contract with the Fijian Drua was terminated.

Despite the controversy, he was selected for the Flying Fijians team in June 2023 by then-coach Simon Raiwalui.
