Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens player Joji Nasova has expressed his ambition to secure the series title with his team in the upcoming year. The talented athlete from Toge, Ba, contributed to his side’s victory of the HSBC SVNS title after participating in 25 tournaments.
Nasova described their recent win as extremely gratifying, crediting the achievement to their teamwork and collaboration. At just 26 years old, Nasova gained recognition for his impressive tackles, making his debut at the Hong Kong Sevens only four months after representing Fiji in the national squad during the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
His skill and dedication led him to be selected by coach Osea Kolinisau to be part of the team that clinched a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games in July. Nasova expressed gratitude for his opportunities, saying, “I can only thank God for all He has provided for me,” and highlighted the importance of discipline in achieving success both on and off the field.
Reflecting on his journey in rugby, he shared that he hadn’t completed high school or held a job, but he fully committed himself to the sport, which has allowed him to support his family. His brother, Iliavi Masori, is also part of the extended national sevens squad, having played alongside him at the Honiara Pacific Games.
The men’s sevens team is currently enjoying a two-week break before returning to camp in January to train for the Perth 7s, scheduled for January 24-26.
This story highlights the potential and hard work of athletes like Joji Nasova, whose determination and focus can inspire budding sportsmen and women everywhere. With a commitment to teamwork and discipline, the Fijian team seems poised for a bright future in the rugby sevens arena.
