Rugby Star Chay Fihaki Signs Long-Term Deal with Crusaders

Chay Fihaki, a rising rugby talent of Fijian descent, has signed a commitment with the Crusaders and Canterbury extending through 2026.

Fihaki, a versatile back, had a standout 2024 season, starting in 12 out of the 14 Super Rugby Pacific matches he participated in. At just 23 years old, he was also chosen to play for the Barbarians in their match against Fiji at Twickenham in June and is set to represent Canterbury in the 2024 Bunnings Warehouse NPC.

“I’m very pleased to continue my playing career with the Crusaders,” said Fihaki. “This club means so much to me and my family; it’s a special place. Playing with this group and having incredible support from coaches and team management makes me excited to see what we can achieve together in the coming seasons.”

Since making his debut for the Crusaders in 2021, Fihaki earned the number 15 jersey at the beginning of the 2024 season, where he scored two tries in the opening round against the Chiefs, including a remarkable 30-meter runaway try. After spending significant time at fullback, he has demonstrated his versatility by excelling on the wing and in the midfield, establishing himself as a vital part of the starting backline.
