Rugby Showdown: Will the Western Clubs Rise or Fall?

Western rugby league clubs are preparing for a challenging competition as they compete against teams from the Suva/Nasinu zone in the Vodafone Cup National Elimination Round at Lawaqa Park today. A total of 16 clubs will participate, with nine teams representing the Suva/Nasinu zone and seven from the West, all vying for a chance to reach the Vodafone Cup quarter-finals next week.

The seven teams from the West include the reigning champions Saru Dragons, Ravoravo Rabbitohs, West Coast Storm, Namoli West Tigers, Waitaci Titans, Conua Kingfisher, and Laselase Cowboys. Each team has been diligently training for this pivotal moment in the tournament.

Jone Wesele, the Fiji National Rugby League West development officer, highlighted the Saru Dragons’ commitment to retaining their championship title. “Saru Dragons want to defend their title, and they face strong competition from other teams in the West, such as Ravoravo Rabbitohs and Namoli West Tigers,” Wesele noted. “The Western clubs are not just participating to fill spots, they are preparing to win.”

Last year, only two teams from the Western zone made it to the quarter-finals, but this year, they are keen to improve that outcome and secure additional positions.
