Western rugby league clubs are preparing for an intense competition as they go up against teams from the Suva/Nasinu zone in the Vodafone Cup National Elimination Round taking place today at Lawaqa Park.
A total of 16 clubs will compete, with nine from the Suva/Nasinu zone and seven from the West fighting for a chance to advance to the Vodafone Cup quarter-finals next week.
The seven teams representing the Western clubs include the defending champions, Saru Dragons, as well as Ravoravo Rabbitohs, West Coast Storm, Namoli West Tigers, Waitaci Titans, Conua Kingfisher, and Laselase Cowboys.
Each team has been preparing thoroughly for this pivotal moment in the tournament. Fiji National Rugby League West development officer, Jone Wesele, highlighted that the Saru Dragons are focused on defending their title.
“Saru Dragons are aiming to hold onto their title, and they face significant competition from other Western teams such as Ravoravo Rabbitohs and Namoli West Tigers.
The Western clubs are not just participating; they are preparing earnestly to secure victories,” Wesele stated.
Last year saw only two Western teams progress to the quarter-finals, but today, the aim is to boost that number and achieve greater success.
