Western rugby league clubs are set for an intense competition as they go up against teams from the Suva/Nasinu zone in today’s Vodafone Cup National Elimination Round at Lawaqa Park. A total of 16 clubs will compete today, with nine hailing from the Suva/Nasinu zone and seven from the West, all eager to secure a place in the Vodafone Cup quarter-finals next week.
The seven clubs from the West include the defending champions Saru Dragons, as well as the Ravoravo Rabbitohs, West Coast Storm, Namoli West Tigers, Waitaci Titans, Conua Kingfisher, and Laselase Cowboys. Each team has been diligently preparing for this pivotal stage of the competition.
Jone Wesele, the Fiji National Rugby League West development officer, emphasized that the Saru Dragons are committed to defending their title. He stated, “The Saru Dragons aim to retain their championship, and they are facing strong competition from other Western teams like the Ravoravo Rabbitohs and Namoli West Tigers. The Western clubs are not just participating for the sake of it; they are fully prepared to win.”
Last year, only two teams from the West progressed to the quarter-finals, but the clubs are determined to improve on that performance and secure more spots this time around.
