A vibrant day of school rugby competition is set to unfold at Churchill Park in Lautoka today as the finals for the West Secondary Schools Vodafone Deans and Raluve tournaments take center stage. This much-anticipated showdown sees Ratu Navula College emerging as a dominant force in the lower grades, participating in three finals. They will face Tavua College in the Under-14 final, Natabua High School in the Under-15 final, and Ba Provincial Freebird Institute in the Under-19 competition.

Traditional powerhouse Natabua High is also competing across four grades, taking on Ba Methodist High School in the Under-16 final and Ba Pro in the Under-17 match. However, the spotlight will particularly shine on the Under-18 final, where Natabua High faces Cuvu College in what promises to be a thrilling clash, scheduled for 4:10 PM. West Secondary Schools Rugby Union president Jovesa Saqali expressed enthusiasm regarding the U18 final, noting the teams’ previous encounter earlier in the season saw Natabua victorious but warned that Cuvu College, last year’s representatives from the West, will come ready to challenge.

In the girls’ Raluve competition, defending national champions Natabua will square off against Jasper Williams High School in the U18 final and defend their national U16 title against St. Theresa. Saqali acknowledged the competitive spirit of Jasper, whose U16 side nearly upset Sigatoka Methodist in the semifinals last week.

The finals are a culmination of months of rigorous preparation, embodying the spirit of youth sports and community support. With students, families, and friends all coming together, these matches not only promise riveting action on the field but also foster a sense of unity and pride among the participating schools and their supporters.

This event highlights the excitement surrounding school rugby and the commitment to nurturing young talent in the region, paving the way for future stars in both boys’ and girls’ rugby. Hope is alive as these young athletes compete not just for titles, but to showcase their skills and dedication to the sport they love.
