Last Saturday saw an exhilarating round of rugby competitions in Suva, with teams battling for supremacy in the Suva Rugby Union’s Koroturaga and Escott grades. Matches were held at the Nasova ground and Albert Park, benefiting from ideal weather conditions.
In the Escott grade’s round ten at Albert Park ground two, Fire secured a victory against Lakeba with a score of 26-14. The Fa & Co Eastern Saints triumphed 28-15 over Marist Red, while Army Green claimed a 25-13 win against the Suva Stallions. The Nabua Maroons also had a successful outing, defeating DHL Raiwaqa 23-15. Covenant showcased a remarkable performance, overwhelming Tovata with a stunning 61-0 scoreline. In a closely contested match for the Esala Teleni Shield Challenge, Lomaiviti Black edged out Naqarani 12-8.
Meanwhile, the Koroturaga grade staged rounds seven and eight at Albert Park ground three. Covenant Red narrowly defeated the Lami Cavaliers 21-19, while Army Red played to an even draw against Vanuabalavu at 9-9. Eastern Saints 2 were narrowly beaten by Vuna Brothers, finishing 20-22, and Qauia Green triumphed over Taha with a tight 10-8 victory. Navy White delivered a commanding performance against Marist Blue, winning decisively 43-14.
At the Nasova ground in the Escott grade’s rounds seven and nine, SCB Police Blues demonstrated dominance with a resounding 38-3 victory against Central Brothers in round seven. In round nine, Savura secured a close win over RKSOB, ending the match at 25-20, while Nasinu edged out USP with a final score of 24-13. Wins by default were also noted as QVSOB achieved victory over Draunivau and the Lami Cavaliers were declared winners against Navakavu without play.
The fierce competition of the Suva Rugby Union continues to thrill, and fans eagerly await what the next matches will bring, with expectations high for more exciting performances and close contests in the future.
