The second leg of the Fijian Cup rugby festival wrapped up yesterday after an exciting two-day event that featured both local and international teams competing in rugby sevens at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.
In the open men’s division, Island Magic Daveta triumphed over Ratu Filise with a score of 19-7, marking a successful run following a tough semi-final where they drew 10-all against Vunavutu. In the women’s open category, Tuva dominated the Full Send Pink, finishing the match at 21-5 after a commendable journey through the pool stages and into elimination rounds.
The under 85kg category saw Tovolea secure a narrow victory of 12-7 against Senibiau, while Nahigatoka celebrated a victory in the legends category, defeating Cuvu Black 17-7. This win was particularly sweet for the team, considering they faced challenges in the earlier stages of the tournament.
Pat Spellman, representing Tourism HQ, emphasized the importance of the Fijian Cup for both local and international teams, highlighting its role in promoting rugby and fostering community spirit.
Looking ahead, the Fijian Cup will continue next week with the addition of rugby league nines at Lawaqa Park, promising more thrilling action for fans and participants alike.
This festival not only showcases the talents of rugby players but also contributes significantly to the sporting culture and tourism in Fiji, setting the stage for a bright future for the sport in the region.
