Setareki Turagacoke, at just 18 years old, made an impressive debut for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians during their 33-19 triumph over Spain in the ongoing Europe Tour. Hailing from Dakuinuku, Sawakasa in Korovou, Tailevu, Turagacoke not only played in the match but also contributed significantly by scoring a try, making his debut even more memorable.
Turagacoke received a call-up to the Flying Fijians squad only last week to replace the injured Temo Mayanavanua. Coming off the bench in the second half, he quickly made his mark on the game. Currently, he represents Stade Français Club in France, a team he joined after finishing Year 12 at Lelean Memorial School in Nausori.
Having begun his rugby journey at the Eastern Saints Rugby Academy at the age of 14, Turagacoke has also been a part of the FRU HPU Pathway program, which nurtures young rugby talents. His impressive debut suggests a promising future in international rugby, and fans can look forward to potentially seeing more of him when the Flying Fijians take on Ireland in their final match of the Europe Tour this coming weekend.
This young athlete’s entry into the national team serves as an inspiration for aspiring rugby players in Fiji and showcases the strength of the country’s youth development programs in sports. With Turagacoke’s talent and determination, the future looks bright for both him and the Flying Fijians.
