At just 18 years old, Setareki Turagacoke made a remarkable debut for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians against Spain, contributing to their 33-19 victory during their European tour. The native from Dakuinuku, Sawakasa, in Korovou, Tailevu, not only made his debut special but also memorable by scoring a try in the team’s comeback win.
Turagacoke was called up to the Flying Fijians squad last week to fill in for the injured Temo Mayanavanua. After being named in the reserves, he had an immediate impact when he stepped onto the field in the second half of the match.
Currently, he plays for Stade Français Club in France, having joined them last year after finishing Year 12 at Lelean Memorial School in Nausori. He developed his skills at the Eastern Saints Rugby Academy, which he joined at the age of 14, and has also been part of the Fiji Rugby Union High-Performance Unit Pathway program.
As the Flying Fijians prepare to face Ireland in their final match of the European tour this weekend, Turagacoke is poised to see more playing time, offering fans hope for an exciting showcase of young talent on the international stage.
This story illustrates the potential of young athletes emerging in rugby, and Turagacoke’s promising debut could inspire others in the sport. The journey from local clubs to international arenas reflects the dedication and opportunities available in rugby, fostering growth and excitement for the future of the game in Fiji.
