At just 18 years old, Setareki Turagacoke made an impressive debut for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians in their recent 33-19 victory over Spain during their European Tour. The young athlete, hailing from Dakuinuku, Sawakasa in Korovou, Tailevu, not only contributed to the team’s success but also scored a try, making his debut even more remarkable.
Turagacoke was called up to the Flying Fijians squad just days before the match to fill in for the injured Temo Mayanavanua. Although initially named in the reserves, he quickly made his mark when he took to the field in the second half.
Currently, he plays for the Stade Français Club in France, a team he joined last year following his completion of Year 12 at Lelean Memorial School in Nausori. His journey began at the Eastern Saints Rugby Academy, where he started training at the age of 14, and he has since become part of the FRU High-Performance Unit Pathway.
Looking ahead, Turagacoke is expected to have more opportunities to showcase his talents in the upcoming match against Ireland, which will be the last game of the Flying Fijians’ European Tour.
This article highlights the potential of young athletes in rugby and showcases how early dedication and training can lead to opportunities on international stages. The future looks bright for Turagacoke, as he continues to gain experience and make significant contributions to his team.
