Naitasiri Secondary School claimed the championship title in the South Eastern Zone Secondary School Rugby League girls 9s competition, triumphing over Lomary Secondary School with a score of 12-9 in a tightly contested final held at the St Marcellin Primary School ground on Saturday, despite challenging, wet conditions.
In other divisions, the boys’ championships are heating up as several teams secure their spots in the semi-finals set for this weekend. In the under-19 category, Ratu Kadavu School showcased a dominant performance by defeating Bua Secondary School 30-0. Queen Victoria School followed suit, winning against Lomaivuna Secondary School 24-8. Naitasiri faced a tough match but managed to squeeze past Assemblies of God High School with a narrow 14-10 victory, while Nasinu Secondary School overcame Lami in a closely fought battle, finalizing the score at 22-14.
The younger age groups continue to display impressive skill and competitive spirit. In the under-17 category, Lelean Memorial School achieved an 18-12 victory over Namosi Secondary, while Marist Brothers High delivered a striking performance against Laomivuna Secondary, winning 34-1. Meanwhile, in the U15 division, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School delivered a notable victory against Naitasiri, winning 28-0. Other winners included Nasinu, Vashisht Muni College, and Marist Brothers, all demonstrating the vibrant competitive landscape of secondary school rugby.
