The pools for the eagerly anticipated 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament have been officially announced, setting the stage for an exhilarating three days of rugby from January 16 to 18 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. This year’s competition promises intense matchups among elite Fijian teams alongside prominent international clubs.
In the youth division, last year’s champions, Dominion Brothers, will compete in Pool YA against formidable teams including Tuva Youth, Pacific Nomads, and Nauru Rugby. Pool YB features Bilo Bar Aflame Youth, Tubarua, McDonald’s Saunaka, and Sunnybank Dragons. Meanwhile, Pool YC includes U18 Japan, Village Boys, Star Hospitality Pacific Mana, and Navala Rugby Youth, while Pool YD consists of Southland Broncos, Sacramento Kaji, Sausauvou Taveuni, and Noi Nabua Stallions.
The men’s competition is equally fierce, with defending champions Fiji 7s in Pool MA, competing alongside NZ Sevens 2, Tuva Rugby, and Brothers. Pool MB is set to host NZ Sevens 1, Drua 7s, Seattle Barbarians, and Colo West. In Pool MC, teams like BLK Lavidi, Manu Samoa 7s, Bula Bay 7s, and Ratu Filise will clash for a spot in the next round, while Pool MD includes the Aussie Select 7s, McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s, Devo Babas, and Takita Brothers 7s.
Chairman Jay Whyte expressed his enthusiasm for the robust lineup this year, highlighting the challenging nature of the pools. He noted, “The pools are out for 2025, and it’s very quickly apparent that the contest to simply get out of the pools will be difficult. There are no easy pools, with an even spread of international teams and the highest quality of Fijian club teams making the 2025 tournament the strongest on record.”
This year’s tournament reflects a rich heritage of rugby in Fiji, showcasing both local talent and international prowess, and is poised to be an unforgettable event for players and fans alike.
Overall, the upcoming tournament promises to foster unity and celebrate the sport while providing an exceptional platform for emerging talents in rugby.
