Linghton Leli, a loosehead prop for the ACT Brumbies, is eagerly anticipating his debut in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific, set to take place at home in Suva. The 20-year-old, who was named on the bench, is expected to make a significant impact as a substitute.
Speaking to SUNsports, Leli expressed his gratitude and excitement about returning home, describing it as an emotional experience. While he has aspirations to represent the Flying Fijians in the future, his current focus is on making a strong contribution to the Brumbies during the season.
Hailing from Malaha’a Village in Rotuma, Leli has familial ties to Uma Village in Rabi and was born in Suva. He moved to Australia at the age of three but holds a deep connection to his roots. He joined the Brumbies Academy when he was just 19 and views the opportunity to play for the main squad as a remarkable achievement, far beyond what he initially envisioned.
Leli’s mother, Bernadette, shared insights about his dedication to rugby since he was six years old, emphasizing the hard work he has put into pursuing his dreams. She conveyed that both parents are incredibly proud and supportive of his journey. Family members from both the Rotuman and Banahan sides are also eager to witness Leli’s performance during his Super Rugby Pacific debut, underscoring the community’s pride in his accomplishments.
This milestone in Leli’s career not only highlights his personal journey but also serves as an inspiration for young athletes from similar backgrounds aiming to make their mark in professional sports. The support from his family and community reflects the strong ties that bind them, as they rally behind his endeavors on the rugby field.
