Fiji Airways’ rugby sevens player Joji Nasova is determined to help his team clinch the series title next year. The native of Toge, Ba, played a key role in securing the HSBC SVNS title after a challenging 25-tournament journey.
Nasova described the victory as particularly rewarding, underscoring the importance of teamwork in achieving their goals. Just four months after his debut at the Hong Kong sevens, where his hard-hitting tackles made a significant impact, he helped secure a silver medal for Fiji at the Paris Olympic Games in July.
Expressing gratitude, the 26-year-old stated, “I can only thank God for all He has provided for me,” emphasizing the collective effort needed to win the series next year. He also acknowledged the guidance of coach Osea Kolinisau, who inspires the team to maintain discipline on and off the field.
Reflecting on his journey, Nasova remarked on the pivotal role rugby has played in supporting his family, particularly as he didn’t finish high school or have a regular job. “I gave my all to rugby, and it has brought me this far. I’m able to support my family,” he shared.
Interestingly, Nasova’s brother, Iliavi Masori, is also part of the national sevens extended squad, and they played alongside each other during the Pacific Games in Honiara. The men’s sevens team will take a two-week break before regrouping in January to prepare for the Perth 7s scheduled for January 24-26.
This story highlights not only the personal achievements of Joji Nasova but also the collective spirit and support systems within the team, offering a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring athletes in Fiji and beyond. The dedication displayed by the team sets a positive example of perseverance and teamwork, values that are crucial both in sports and in life.
