Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens player Joji Nasova is determined to claim the series title next year. The athlete from Toge, Ba, played a significant role in helping his team secure the HSBC SVNS title after competing in 25 tournaments. He expressed that the victory was particularly gratifying, attributing it to the players’ teamwork.
At just 26 years old, Nasova has made a remarkable impact on the sport despite a relatively short period of time in the national spotlight. He made his debut at the Hong Kong Sevens just four months after participating in the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands. Later, he contributed to the team as they secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games in July under coach Osea Kolinisau.
Nasova expressed gratitude for his achievements, stating, “I can only thank God for all He has provided for me.” He emphasized that the team’s goal for the upcoming series hinges on their ability to learn and grow collectively. He also acknowledged the importance of discipline both on and off the field, as highlighted by his coach.
Reflecting on his journey, Nasova noted his commitment to rugby as a means to support his family, especially as he did not complete high school or hold a traditional job. His dedication to the sport has allowed him to provide for his loved ones, showcasing how sports can lead to personal and familial success.
Joji’s brother, Iliavi Masori, is also part of the extended national sevens squad, as they both showcased their talents at the Pacific Games. The men’s sevens team will take a brief hiatus before regrouping in January for training in preparation for the Perth Sevens, slated for January 24-26.
This story highlights the potential for athletes to transform their lives through sports, demonstrating that dedication and teamwork can lead to great achievements. With a clear focus on their upcoming goals, the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team embodies the spirit of resilience and ambition.
