The Lomanivuna High School Under-17 rugby league team is set to compete in this year’s Fiji Secondary School Rugby League competition, buoyed by a significant sponsorship from the Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited (FHCL). The company donated $4,000 for new team kits after the previous jerseys were destroyed in a fire that ravaged the school’s storeroom.
Principal Litiana Romanu expressed her gratitude for the support, stating that the new uniforms will uplift the team’s spirits as they gear up for the Central Zone Schools Rugby League Competition this year. “The new jerseys will certainly raise the morale of the school’s Under-17 Rugby League team,” Romanu commented.
Semi Dranibaka, the General Manager of FHCL, highlighted the company’s commitment to empowering youth through education and sports development. He noted that their donation not only improves the team’s training experience but also fosters values like teamwork, discipline, and leadership among the students.
The contribution included sporting uniforms, muscle vests, and socks, all aimed at ensuring the team is well-prepared for upcoming competitions. This initiative underlines the importance of community support in promoting youth engagement in positive activities, showcasing how local businesses can play a pivotal role in the development of young athletes.
Overall, this funding and support are vital in navigating social challenges that youth face, potentially steering them away from negative influences and towards healthier, productive paths through sports.
The emphasis on student involvement in sports is becoming increasingly prominent, as seen in similar initiatives across various schools, reinforcing the idea that engagement in athletic activities can forge a brighter future for young people.
