Breyton Legge, a 20-year-old rugby talent, is determined to make his mark in the sport by setting ambitious goals for himself. Recently named in the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua development squad, Legge boasts an impressive background, having played for prominent teams such as Suva Grammar School, Hamilton Boys High School, and the Fiji U18 and U20 squads as well as competing in New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship.
Rugby runs in Legge’s blood, thanks to his father, Mike Legge, a former player and current rugby coach in Fiji. Breyton began his rugby journey at the age of four, initially playing rugby league in Australia before transitioning to rugby union upon moving to New Zealand. He firmly credits his father’s influence for his dedication to the sport.
During his time at Suva Grammar, he contributed to the U17 Deans winning team, eventually earning a scholarship to Hamilton Boys High School. His talent soon caught the attention of national selectors, leading him to represent Fiji at the recent World Rugby U20 Championship, where he played impressively against teams like Australia, England, and Ireland.
Legge emphasizes the importance of hard work, guided by his father’s advice—though he acknowledges the pride his father feels, he understands there’s much more to achieve. With a clear ambition of making his Super Rugby debut in the 2025 season, he envisions playing in front of his family and aims to ultimately secure a place in the Flying Fijians team for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Apart from his aspirations, Legge cherishes the opportunity to learn from experienced players like Emosi Tuqiri and Peni Ravai, focusing on crucial aspects such as recovery and preparation. Recently back from a pre-season training camp in Kadavu, Legge is utilizing his time off to train diligently to maintain his fitness and readiness for the upcoming season.
