Akuila Masi, the former manager of the Vusu Raiders rugby league team, expressed deep concern over the violent treatment of players by nightclub bouncers in Suva. Following a harrowing incident where seven players were assaulted, two of whom remain unconscious, Masi stated that such behavior from those meant to ensure safety is unacceptable. Masi described the situation as regrettable, highlighting the use of physical force, including improvised weapons, against individuals who were already incapacitated. He assured that steps will be taken to work closely with police to enhance the safety of the players.

He pointed out that the incident could have been avoided if the government had enforced existing laws concerning the service of alcohol to intoxicated customers. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed that an investigation is underway. Police have begun questioning nightclub staff present during the incident and ensured that the injured players received necessary medical care. Currently, three players are stable at Sigatoka Hospital, while two remain unconscious at CWM Hospital.
