Holy Trinity Primary School enthusiastically participated in the Get Into Rugby Plus Festival, a primary school rugby event that showcased young athletic talent while promoting essential values at Bidesi Ground in Laucala Bay, Suva earlier this week.
Ana Sorovi, the GIR Plus coach for the school, expressed the team’s excitement about attending the festival. “We’re looking forward to this event; it offers something new for both the players and their parents,” Sorovi noted. She emphasized that the aim isn’t solely competition but to educate the children about rugby rules and incorporate the DRIPS values—discipline, respect, integrity, passion, and solidarity—into their lives both on and off the field.
These principles form a vital part of the GIR Plus program, aiming to blend sports with crucial life skills for young athletes. Sorovi mentioned that the team had prepared by focusing on around 16 skill sets designed to be integrated into their lessons, enabling effective knowledge transfer to the young players.
Unfortunately, due to heavy rain, the games were halted, but Holy Trinity, like many other participating schools, returned home with a commemorative trophy, signifying their involvement and achievements at the festival.
This event represents a promising step towards fostering not only athletic skills but also strong character development among young students, highlighting the importance of integrity and teamwork in sports and everyday life.
Overall, this initiative demonstrates a commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals through sport, which can have lasting benefits for the community.
