Rugby Meets Faith: Epic 7s Tournament Set to Raise Funds for New Church

A rugby sevens tournament is set to take place in Nadi next weekend, aimed at raising funds for the construction of a church for the All Nations Christian Fellowship. The Epic 7s tournament has attracted top teams from across the nation, with 24 teams confirmed to participate.

Teams including Police Blue and White, Wardens, and Tabadamu have secured their spots, alongside Fiji Bitter Series champions Lavidi Brothers and Kingston Wadigi, who have also registered for the event.

Church members have been exploring different fundraising methods and believe that rugby is a suitable platform for their mission. Tournament director Vilitati Galivia revealed, “We have identified a piece of land in Veikoba, Nasinu, with plans to build a church that can accommodate 15,000 people. We are working on timelines for the construction and are initiating various fundraising activities.”

Galivia noted that organizing the rugby sevens tournament has been in motion for the past two months, aiming to attract a larger audience nationwide. The tournament will feature 24 teams in the main men’s division and another 24 in the under-21 category, with hopes of expanding the men’s category to between 32 and 48 teams in total.

The winner of the senior men’s cup will receive a significant prize of $10,000, while the runner-up will take home $5,000. In the under-21 category, the winning team will earn $2,500, with $1,000 awarded to the runner-up.

The tournament is scheduled for August 30-31 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, with ticket prices set at $7 for adults and $3 for children on the first day, while the second day will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children.
