The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, commended the collaborative efforts of schools, organizers, parents, and sponsors in creating a nurturing environment for secondary school rugby. Speaking during the 85th Fiji Secondary Schools Under 18 Deans final at HFC Stadium, he highlighted the importance of rugby in influencing the future of young Fijians.
“It is always a joy to celebrate rugby moments here at home, especially when they involve our students – our children,” he said. President Katonivere referred to the event as a significant milestone in the rugby journey for the students and expressed pride in being part of the 85th anniversary of Fiji Secondary School Rugby and the final of the 2024 DEANS Competition.
He encouraged the student athletes to value their experiences and the friendships they have formed, urging them to aim for improvement in the coming year. “Many young boys and girls aspire to be in your position. Enjoy the moment. Appreciate the friendships. Learn from your experiences and come back as better players next year,” he advised. The President also conveyed his gratitude to parents and supporters for their continuous dedication to the players’ welfare.
