Fijian Drua players Mesake Doge and Maika Tuitubou brought joy to students at Lautoka Methodist Primary School as part of their annual community outreach program. During the visit, over 300 of the school’s 996 students eagerly gathered to meet their rugby idols, participate in a rugby clinic, and receive valuable sports insights.
The students expressed their excitement in meeting the professional athletes, as this occasion offered them a unique chance for personal interaction with their heroes. To further enhance the experience, the Fijian Drua team generously donated rugby balls and sports kits to the school. The gifts were received by teacher Karthik Goundar, who expressed his heartfelt appreciation, stating, “Thank you for choosing Lautoka Methodist Primary School. This visit means a lot to our students.”
In an interview, Mesake Doge shared his enthusiasm for community involvement, especially as he returns to full fitness after rehabilitation. He remarked, “I’m excited to see these kids. Most of them don’t have much opportunity to meet us, but to be here and give back to the community is something great. It’s amazing to see them come out of their classrooms and enjoy the day.”
This engagement highlights the positive impact that professional athletes can have in their communities and fosters hope that initiatives like these will continue to inspire and motivate young individuals in their sports journeys.
By connecting with students in this manner, the Fijian Drua not only promotes the sport but also encourages personal development and a sense of community, paving the way for a brighter future.
