The 2025 Vodafone Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve secondary schools rugby competitions are set to begin this Saturday after receiving official sanction from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU). This announcement comes after weeks of discussions amid uncertainties regarding the competitions’ future due to earlier administrative and structural concerns.
The FRU has collaborated closely with the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union and the Ministry of Education to navigate these issues, ensuring that the tournaments will proceed as planned. FRU’s interim CEO Koli Sewabu expressed excitement about the agreement reached, stating, “We are grateful to announce that as of yesterday, we have come to an agreement and we will sanction the Vodafone Deans and the Weet-Bix Raluve competitions for 2025.”
As part of the resolution, an interim committee will be established to address the concerns raised by the Ministry of Education, specifically those concerning the involvement of teachers, schools, and public resources. Sewabu acknowledged the importance of these discussions, affirming that the welfare of student-athletes is a top priority.
With the administrative obstacles now behind them, the emphasis shifts back to the field, as young rugby players from schools across Fiji prepare to showcase their talents in the upcoming matches. This moment marks a significant milestone for both the students and their supporters, inducing optimism about a successful sporting season.
Previously, there were changes made to the rugby season’s structure to improve governance and operations within school rugby, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and collaboration in Fiji’s rugby administration. The establishment of the interim committee reflects a commitment to creating a better framework for student-athletes, which could prove beneficial in nurturing future talent.
Fans and stakeholders alike are gearing up for an exciting weekend, as the 2025 campaigns officially launch, giving young athletes the opportunity to pursue their dreams on the rugby field.
